The good thing about kitten yoga is that there are adoptable kittens!
The bad thing about kitten yoga is that you have to share these
wonderful baby animals with other people. These other people will try to
hog all the kittens, picking them up and holding them as they pretend to
move through a sun salutation.
The kittens will step on your mat as you flip into a warrior pose. You
won’t get the best workout at kitten yoga, but it’s hard to care when
your classmates are so fluffy.
Q: Why should we practice yoga?
Q: How do you make yoga a part of your life?

I was asked to build the house for the ashram. Ashram is like an Indian

It was set up around 40 years ago by Indians. It is the Indian style of

It took about 3 months. So I spent a lot of time sitting back and
watching everything that the people do.
I think I am very lucky because when I went to this ashram, I connected
with a lot of very good teachers who’d been teaching yoga for 30 or 40
They all come and stay there for months or years. These people are
I was so lucky to have these people in my life at that time. Not just to
find a yoga center but to find one that has so many teachers that were
so wise and patient and kind.
They do classes, some are teachers, some are students and some are just
interested and want to understand what is happening.
They wanted to teach and help people. And I think that everything I try
to do today comes from them.
And this was what I was surrounded by and watching.
In my tradition, I have a Guru. Guru is your teacher but not there to
solve your problem, he is there to inspire you to rise to your highest
At the very beginning, I thought these people were very strange and I
didn’t want to have any to do with them.
Before you could help any other people or you could be useful to anyone
else, you must learn to solve all of your own problems.
I would build my house and go away. So when they kept inviting me to
come and do some yoga, I said no thank you.
So that no matter what situation life brings to you, you can be content.
But the one thing that I observed was that even though those people were
really weird they were all really happy.
And that made me start to wonder how’d this make them happy.
Q: Does yoga have anything to do with emotion control?
Before my leave, they kept inviting me to yoga class.
A: There is no point of being angry or sad which doesn’t help anything.
Everybody has positive feelings and emotions and negative ones.
I just refused because I thought myself was already strong and getting
strong was the purpose of yoga I understood by then.
I don’t think you could stop these things. But you could learn to live
But in the end, I was about to leave, I thought I should go try one yoga
class that can’t hurt me.
And you can learn to not make them affect your life so strongly.
So I took 2 yoga classes and I could not believe that I felt so good
after these yoga classes.
Some people they hold on to these feeling of anger or fear and their
whole life become anger and fear.
I wondered may be that was why these people were so happy.
It means all that they could give other people is anger and fear which
is not a good way for anybody.
And in this time at my life, I have been working for 20 years in
business which I was quite successful in.
So I think yoga is about to understand there would be time to be happy
and there would be time to be sad.
I was a boss and had many people working for me. But I had a lot of
worry and pressure and stress in my life.
You need to find a way, among all of these things, to be content no
matter what feeling or emotion it is that is within you.
I realized that money would not bring me happiness so I went to live in
the forest to live with nature quietly and try to find some happiness.
So you can be sitting there and you can be angry but you can still
And this was the time when yoga came into my life. In the 2 classes I
just did some asana and a little bit of breathing.
It takes practice but the first thing you must come to understand is
that this can happen.
That’s why I couldn’t understand because I thought this was so simple
but it really had affect on me.
If you don’t believe you can be positive in this way, you’ll never be in
I heard all of the people in this ashram talking they had a yoga course
which would take 3 years and teach about the history and philosophy of
yoga, the anatomy and how to do the practices.
It’s like when I first demonstrated handstand in the class, I looked at
all of the students and I could see everyone of them going “Why is he
showing us this practice? I can never do this”.
Since I was living 10 minutes away and had plenty of spare time and I
enjoyed of study, I decided that I would do this yoga training course.
But in 5 min, they have all done it even it’s only for a second or two.
So I have lived half of my life very different way.
It is a really good example of showing our mind stops us from doing so
many things because we do not believe.
I started off as an apprentice in a communication company and I worked
my way up over 20 years then I became the boss.
So everybody has a choice. And I think the time when we understand that
we can all be in control of our life or we can have a positive effect on
our life no matter whether we are successful or unsuccessful, rich or
poor, we can still find contentment in purpose.
So I understand what it’s like to be at bottom and what it’s like to
come up and to be at the top. It’s not a good life style.
But we have to come to that choice ourselves, to that understanding

And as a yoga teacher, I am interested in guiding people to see that and
to make that choice for themselves.
This leads to every night you going out to drink with everybody, you do
not eat well, you do not exercise well, gambling and other crazy things.
Sometimes you do this not by saying anything but just by your actions,
the way you are.
But if someone had told me then, it’s not a way for happiness, I
wouldn’t have believed them.
And people will see things that they respect or do not respect in
We learn everything through our experience in our life.
Subconsciously when we see positive things in people we will think “I
would like to try and be like that”.
The mistakes we made are for a reason.
And maybe we will see negative things in people we will think “I should
try not to do like that person”.
They are for us to learn which is the right way and which is the wrong
I think this the way of teaching. A good teacher doesn’t have to say a
word which is useful in China if you don’t speak in Chinese. (LOL)
So I guess you could say that in some ways, all this time I was sort of
doing yoga but I just didn’t realize I was doing it.
I could remember that I went to the charge of education in the ashram
because I thought I didn’t be able to start the study due to less
experience in yoga.
Q: Compare to other kind of yoga practice, it seems meditation does not
have standard steps. Is that true?
I asked “what do I have to do before the class”. And this big, scared
man laughed suddenly and said “You are an old soul, you have being done
this for a long time.”
皇家88平台，A: Really there is standard step but it is actually different from each
person. And it will take different time for every person.
I looked at him and thought I have only done this for 2 classes, I
didn’t really understand what he meant. That’s how I got involved with
yoga 20 years ago.
Like none of you are the same. You all have different experiences and
come to meditation class for different reasons and purposes.
And I think still I am studying in the course. I am very happy this all
came to me because I never woke up on morning and said “Wow, my life
would be good if I go and study yoga and become a yogi or a teacher.”
This is what I believe in “Something Else”.
Some people could understand only with 2 classes and some people come to
for 102 classes and then they would understand.
